Democracy and the public

I keep First Democracy: the Challenge of an Ancient Idea, by Paul Woodruff on my desk, for frequent reference, and writing in this category reflects his work, on:
• freedom from tyranny (and from being a tyrant);
• harmony;
• the rule of law;
• natural equality;
• citizen wisdom;
• reasoning without knowledge; and
• education for life and citizenship.

Direct democracy expresses itself differently than representative democracy.

Subsidiarity is not at all the same thing as democracy.
